COALITION OF YOUNG FEMALE CANDIDATES DEMAND LEGAL FRAMEWORK TO SUPPORT WOMEN IN POLITICS

A Non -Governmental Organization, Coalition of Young Female Candidate (CYFC), has called on Federal Government to establish a legal framework that will support, promote and protect the interest of female politicians before, during and after elections.
National president of CYFC,Lady Doris Amaka made the call at the second annual conference of the group in Abuja.
Lady Doris Amaka who enumerated the enormous challenges being faced by women in politics,stressed the need for effective support system to curb the menance.
“We need government to create a bill that support women financially in subsequent elections, we need mobilization and funding of their campaign”To open up dialogue between stakeholders, organizations to see more engagement with female candidates across board”
The National President who noted that Nigeria has the lowest percentage of women Parliament in Africa,urged Nigerian women to be actively involved in the governance of the nation.

“Looking at the above statistics, Nigeria has 6.0% being the lowest in Africa, l therefore urge all women to rise up and fight for women inclusion in governance (Aba women did it in 1929)we can do the same in preparation for 2023 through peaceful protests and constructive negotiations”
She however stressed the need for effective mentoring and empowerment of young female generation in achieving the desired change.
Highlights of the event includes award presentation to some prominent personalities who have been a great pillar of support in advancing the course of women in the country.
