CLEEN Foundation Organises Capacity Building Training For Police oversight Agencies.

CLEEN Foundation on organised a be capacity building training for the Police oversight Agencies on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Abuja, with the objective of improving service delivery by the foremost security agency.
In her welcome remarks, the Acting Executive Director,Centre for Law Enforcement Education in Nigeria (Cleen Foundation), Ruth Olofin who was represented by the Program Manager, Mrs Chigozirim Okoro said the project came as a result of the #endSARs protest.
“Police brutality has been an issue in the country and CLEEN Foundation is working to ensure that police officers are well trained and their welfare packages improved. There have been several complaints regarding police brutality that was not properly managed”, Chigozirim stated.
Mrs. Chigozirim stressed that the training is very important to enhance and share knowledge as regards what is working and what is not working for each of the agencies and what is the way forward.
According to her, “As the space is actually evolving, the challenges are becoming more intense in terms of the kind of crimes happening here and there. We make the number of participants very small so that we will engage ourselves and share ideas on the challenges affecting us in terms of effective service delivery so that everyone will learn from your various experiences.
There has been an effort by civil society organization and our partners MacArthur Foundation is supporting us to ensure that at the end of the day we leave here better.”
She urged participants to share the information and knowledge in the meeting with colleagues and much as possible.
Speaking to Journalists, the Assistant Chief Admin Officer of the Police Service Commission, Bridget Ujege said that the commission is trying to create more awareness to the public so they will know that the commission is there for them in case of officers who stepped out of the rims of their duties.
She stated that the main challenges affecting service delivery are lack of finance, Inadequate funding, and lack of proper training.
“As we know the role of the police service commission is the recruitment of police officers and ensuring that the right people are placed in the right position.
“The government and the commission are working to ensure that the police welfare packages improve”, she assured.
Speaking also the program officer of CLEEN Foundation Mr. Olaniyi Olumayowa says that CLEEN Foundation has been working for the past 24yrs to explore every avenue to ensure that they have a reformed Democratic principled police in Nigeria.
Participants include, Representatives from the Police Service Commission (PSC), National Human Rights Commission (HHRC) and Federal Ministry of Police Affairs.
