Aviation’s Code of Conduct: No Room for Impunity
By Oru Leonard
The recent incident involving Comfort Emmanson on an Ibom Air flight is a stark reminder of the need for stricter sanctions against unruly passengers. The fact that Emmanson’s behavior posed a serious threat to the safety of the crew, passengers, and aircraft is alarming.
It’s worth noting that similar incidents have occurred in the recent past, involving individuals like Senator Adams Oshiomole and K1, who seemed to have acted with impunity. If these individuals are not held accountable for their actions, it may embolden others to engage in similar behavior.
In the case of Emmanson, her actions were egregious, and Ibom Air’s response, including placing a travel restriction on her and handing her over to the authorities, is commendable. However, it’s crucial that the aviation industry stakeholders and relevant authorities take a firmer stance against unruly passengers.
Unless individuals like Senator Adams Oshiomole and the fuji musician Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, alias Kwan 1, face serious sanctions for their actions, passenger behavior may indeed worsen. The message needs to be clear: unruly behavior will not be tolerated, and those who engage in it will face consequences.
The safety and security of passengers crew and airport infrastructure should always be the top priority. It’s essential that airlines, regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies and cifizens work together to ensure that passengers who engage in violent or disruptive behavior are held accountable.
By taking a strong stance against unruly passengers, we can create a safer and more respectful environment for everyone on board.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), should also consider the collaborating with the Mental Health Experts to be involved in relevant cases.
