The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has issued a stern warning to all aircraft operators and pilots, effective November 6, 2024. It has come to their attention that some licensed flight crew members are using their simulator privileges and proficiency checks to operate for multiple airlines simultaneously, posing a significant safety risk to the industry.
The NCAA emphasizes that flight simulator training devices and facilities are operator-specific, tailored to each airline’s training program and standard operating procedures. This means that pilots cannot simply switch between airlines without proper safety considerations.
To address this issue, the NCAA has outlined three key actions, Prohibition of Ad-Hoc Flight Operations, Pilots are no longer allowed to operate for multiple airlines without proper safety clearances.
Enforcement Action: The NCAA says it will take action against violators, effective November 11, 2024.
In addition, simulator renewals will now be tied to the specific airline operator.
Captain Chris Najomo, Acting Director General of Civil Aviation therefore urged all accountable managers, directors of flight operations, and chief pilots to comply with this directive to ensure the safety of the aviation industry. This move aims to prevent potential accidents and maintain the highest standards of safety in Nigerian aviation.
