APBPI Commends FG, Supreme Court on Landmark Judgment affirming Local Govt rights

Prominent Civil Society Organisation, The Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiatives (APBPI), has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Supreme Court for their landmark judgment, affirming the constitutional rights of local governments.
This is contained in a statement made available to News Dot Africa by the Behavioural/Project Director, Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiatives, Mrs Lilian Mann.
According to APBPI Boss, the decision is a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s federal structure and ensuring effective governance at the grassroots level.
“President Bola Tinubu’s administration deserves applause for instituting this suit, which has led to a historic judgment that will benefit the Nigerian people, especially the poor and vulnerable. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), also deserves commendation for his diligent efforts in this critical legal battle.
“This judgment presents an opportunity for local government leaders to deliver people-oriented services, ensuring that Nigerians at the grassroots feel the impact of governance. Specifically, local governments are expected to: Deliver people-oriented services, Ensure Nigerians at the grassroots feel the impact of governance, Prioritize essential amenities and public goods and particularly those benefiting children,
Provide access to: Quality education, Healthcare services, Safe drinking water and sanitation, Recreational facilities and spaces for physical activity, Support for vulnerable children, including orphans and those with disabilities.
“The federal government is also urged to continually support people-oriented policies and programs, leading to significant improvements in citizens’ lives. This development will contribute to a better Nigeria. As a result, Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiatives reaffirms its commitment to supporting good behaviour and positive behavioural patterns in Nigeria, promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, and responsiveness in governance”, she concluded.
