Akwa Ibom State Owns Airline
The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has announced the take off of Akwa Ibom State-owned airline, christened Ibom Air, Newsgazette reports.
Emmanuel who disclosed this on Friday during the annual Akwa Ibom State Christmas Carol Night held in Uyo on Friday said it would be the first state government-owned scheduled airline in Africa.
“Our state owned and run Obong Victor Attah International Airport has a Category 2 runaway and work is on-going on the second taxiway. To ensure that our state remains the destination of choice for foreign investors, we are launching Ibom Air, our wholly owned airline that will lessen the problems currently being encountered by our numerous air travellers,” he said.
It was gathered that the airline has a fleet of three aircraft already, but scheduled operations will start with two aircraft which have already been branded in Canada.
The new airline will take delivery of the two aircraft before year end while the third aircraft will join the fleet by February 2019.
