Again, NIMC Warns Against Unauthorized NIN Card Printing
Oru Leonard
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a stern warning against the indiscriminate printing of unauthorized National Identification Number (NIN) cards by individuals, cyber cafes, and organizations. This illegal activity involves charging unsuspecting members of the public exorbitant fees for the fake cards.
According to NIMC, only the official NIMC General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC), is legally recognized, and any other card presented as a means of identification is invalid. The commission has notified security agencies to apprehend those involved in this illicit trade, and offenders will face the full wrath of the law.
Unauthorized NIN card printing, selling, or issuing fake NIN cards is punishable under the NIMC Act No. 23, 2007.
The commission reiterates that the NIN slip is the only legal document authorized as a means of identification as NIMC plans to launch the Improved GMPC, a multifunctional card serving as both a physical identification document and a payment card, powered by AfriGO.
For inquiries or to report unauthorized NIN card printing, the public can reach NIMC at 07002255646, 0815505388, or via email at nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng and ieu@nimc.gov.ng.
