TCN RESTORES AJAH–LEKKI 330KV TRANSMISSION LINE AFTER TECHNICAL FAULT

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has announced the successful restoration of the Ajah–Lekki 330kV Transmission Line following the resolution of a technical fault at the Lekki Transmission Substation.

TCN disclosed that the transmission line was restored to service at 3:18 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after engineers resolved a pole discordance issue affecting the closure of a gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) circuit breaker at the Lekki substation.

According to the company, the power disruption began at 12:40 p.m. on October 19, 2026, when the Ajah 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation lost supply from the Egbin–Ajah 330kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2 following a system disturbance.

Although supply was subsequently restored, the Ajah–Lekki 330kV Transmission Line tripped again at 5:02 p.m. due to a three-phase-to-ground fault detected by the Zone 1 protection system.

TCN explained that the affected line was patrolled and restored at 6:50 p.m. on October 20. However, efforts to close the GIS circuit breaker at the Lekki Transmission Substation were unsuccessful because of pole discordance.

The company said its engineers subsequently rectified the problem, enabling the circuit breaker to close successfully and the transmission line to return to service.

TCN expressed appreciation to customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) affected by the outage for their patience and understanding, while regretting the inconvenience caused by the disruption.

The restoration is expected to support the resumption of normal power transmission through the affected infrastructure.
