Idris Seeks Grassroots Support for Tinubu’s Reforms, Highlights Economic Gains

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called for stronger grassroots mobilisation to promote public understanding of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms, describing them as essential steps towards Nigeria’s economic stability and long-term prosperity.
Idris made the call in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of Friends of Tinubu Reforms (FTR), Comrade (Hon.) Agbor Ebipade, who presented the organisation’s activities and sought collaboration with the Ministry to communicate the administration’s policies to Nigerians at the grassroots.
The minister identified fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification as major policy decisions taken by the Tinubu administration to stabilise the economy.
According to him, the reforms have helped address some of the fiscal challenges confronting state governments, particularly their capacity to meet salary obligations.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda is designed to take Nigeria to greater prosperity. The removal of the fuel subsidy, together with the unification of the foreign exchange, are two programmes the President needed to implement to stabilise this country,” Idris said.
He recalled that some states had previously struggled to pay workers’ salaries, stressing the need for Nigerians to understand the rationale behind government policies and their expected long-term benefits.
The minister also highlighted interventions in education, agriculture, security and infrastructure, including the student loan programme and major road construction projects, as areas requiring sustained public awareness.
Idris commended FTR for compiling a document detailing the administration’s reforms, noting that effective communication of government policies required collaboration beyond official government channels.
“I thank you for putting together this compendium of reforms. Every part of this country deserves to know what this administration is doing. Government officials alone cannot communicate government programmes effectively,” he said.
He added that partnerships with civil society organisations, voluntary groups and political support organisations could help bridge information gaps and ensure that citizens across the country understood government policies.
Earlier, Ebipade explained that Friends of Tinubu Reforms was established to promote the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthen communication between the government and the public.
He said the organisation developed the compendium to provide accessible information on government policies and reforms, particularly for citizens at the grassroots.
“We put together this compendium because President Tinubu is working, and we need all Nigerians to see the good work that he is doing,” Ebipade stated.
The FTR director-general requested the Ministry’s support for the planned launch and distribution of the publication, which he said would help deepen public awareness of the administration’s programmes.
He also invited Idris to serve as the organisation’s Grand Patron, expressing optimism that the minister’s involvement would strengthen its public enlightenment efforts.
In his response, Idris welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to communicating government policies and programmes in clear, accessible language to promote public understanding and participation in national development.
