President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence 1 of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.

The appointment is contained in the composition of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council approved by President Tinubu for his Second term bid.

Matawalle, a former Governor of Zamfara State, is expected to play a key role in coordinating security arrangements for the party’s campaign activities nationwide.

In his new role, he will support the development of the security architecture for campaign programmes, undertake intelligence and risk assessments, and work with relevant security agencies to identify and mitigate potential threats to campaign operations.

He will also be expected to facilitate coordination among security agencies and other stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups.

The appointment underscores the President’s confidence in Matawalle’s experience in governance, security management and political mobilisation.

As governor of Zamfara State, Matawalle dealt with complex security challenges and pursued community-based peace initiatives. In his current position as Minister of State for Defence, he has been involved in policy implementation, strategic engagements with security agencies and initiatives focused on troops’ welfare and defence infrastructure.

Reacting to the appointment, Matawalle expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to deploy his experience as a former governor, serving federal minister and political leader towards ensuring a peaceful, coordinated and successful campaign.

Matawalle said he would work with other members of the Campaign Council to take the achievements of the Renewed Hope Administration to Nigerians across the country.

The appointment has also elicited congratulatory messages from political associates and supporters, who described it as recognition of Matawalle’s experience and capacity in security and grassroots mobilisation.
