Bangladesh High Commission Hands Over Certificates to Nigerian, Gambian Diplomats

ABUJA, Aug. 20, 2026 — The Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja has handed over certificates and transcripts to Nigerian and Gambian junior diplomats who participated in the 3rd Professional Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy (PMIRD) course at the Foreign Service Academy (FSA) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2025.

The certificate handover ceremony, held physically and virtually on Thursday, brought together diplomatic officials, representatives of the participating countries and other distinguished guests.
In his opening remarks, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Nigeria, H.E. Miah Md. Mainul Kabir, underscored the importance of the occasion and the role of professional training in strengthening diplomatic capacity and international cooperation.

Also speaking, H.E. Ambassador Garba Satomi Grema, Director of Regions at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the significance of the training programme and its contribution to enhancing the professional capabilities of Nigerian diplomats.

The Rector of Bangladesh’s Foreign Service Academy, Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, addressed the ceremony virtually, while Dr. A.S.M. Ali Ashraf, Professor and Chairman of the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka, also delivered remarks.

A representative of the High Commission of The Gambia spoke on behalf of the Gambian participants, while Nigerian junior diplomats who attended the PMIRD programme shared their experiences and reflections on their training in Dhaka.

The PMIRD programme provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of international relations, diplomacy and contemporary global affairs while fostering professional and institutional links among diplomats from participating countries.

At the end of the ceremony, High Commissioner Kabir formally presented the certificates and transcripts to the Nigerian participants and the representative of The Gambia.

The ceremony was attended by other members of the diplomatic community, including the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Liberia and Counsellors representing the Republic of Congo and the Republic of Angola.

The event further underscored the growing educational and diplomatic cooperation between Bangladesh and African countries, particularly in the area of capacity building for foreign service professionals.
