PCVSN to Hold 6th Convocation, 8th Investiture Ceremony in Abuja August 13

The Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria has announced that it will hold its 6th Convocation and 8th Investiture Ceremony on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Abuja, bringing together key stakeholders in the veterinary profession, government, academia, and the livestock industry.
Established by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, the College is mandated to advance postgraduate education for veterinary surgeons through structured specialist training and examinations. Successful candidates are awarded the prestigious Fellowship Diploma, conferring the status of Consultant in their respective areas of specialization.
The 2026 ceremony will witness the induction of new Members and Fellows who have successfully completed rigorous academic and clinical training, positioning them to provide specialist leadership in animal health, livestock production, public health, research, and policy development.
The event will be held under the theme, “Building a Resilient and Globally Competitive Livestock Industry: The Strategic Role of Veterinary Specialists in Nigeria.” Organisers said the theme reflects the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria’s livestock sector in the face of climate change, emerging disease threats, global trade demands, and growing food security concerns.
Chairman of the Convocation Planning Committee, David Ehizibolo, said the ceremony goes beyond celebrating academic excellence.
“PCVSN remains committed to producing specialists who can drive innovation and policy in animal health. This Convocation and Investiture is not just a celebration of academic success; it is a call to action for veterinary professionals to lead the transformation of our livestock industry into one that is resilient, profitable, and globally respected,” he said.
Also speaking, Secretary of the Convocation Planning Committee and Secretary of PCVSN, Helen Egoyibo Oputa-Chime, reaffirmed the College’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of postgraduate veterinary education.
“As we invest in new Fellows and Members, we are investing in the future of veterinary medicine in Nigeria and in the health of the nation’s food systems,” she stated.
The College has invited government officials, development partners, industry leaders, academics, and members of the veterinary profession to participate in the event.
Expected dignitaries include the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Aishatu Abubakar Baju, President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria Matthew Adamu, the Acting Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, the Chairman of the Convocation Ceremony, and the keynote speaker.
The convocation and investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place at the I. A. Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission, Aja Chukwu House, No. 26 Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
