NiDCOM Boss Congratulates Nigerian Born Rosaline Ogunro on Emergence as Mayor of Islington

ABUJA, MAY 27, 2026: The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Rosaline Ogunro on her emergence as the new Mayor of Islington, describing her achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria and a testament to excellence, dedication, and impactful community service.

Dabiri-Erewa said Rosaline’s emergence further reflects the growing global recognition of Nigerians in the Diaspora who continue to distinguish themselves in leadership, governance, and community development.

Rosaline Ogunro, who was first elected Councillor for St. Peter’s and Canalside Ward of Islington Council in May 2022, previously served on the Homes and Communities Scrutiny Committee, the Licensing Committee, and as Deputy Mayor before ascending to the prestigious office of Mayor of Islington.
The NiDCOM Boss commended Rosaline’s unwavering commitment to public service and community advancement, noting that her inspiring journey remains a source of pride and motivation for many Nigerians at home and abroad.

According to Dabiri-Erewa, Rosaline’s years of dedicated service, advocacy, and active involvement in community affairs have distinguished her as an outstanding ambassador of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.

Before becoming a councillor, Rosaline worked with several voluntary organisations, including the Islington Citizens Advice Bureau, where she currently serves part-time as an Adviser.
She also worked in the Marketing Department of the London Symphony Orchestra as Customer Service and Office Coordinator and remained an active member of the Orchestra’s Community Choir for over two decades.

Rosaline has a rich background in broadcasting, having previously worked with Radio Nigeria before relocating to the United Kingdom. In May 2022, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees of St Luke’s Centre, further demonstrating her dedication to community engagement and development.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Rosaline is passionate about singing, fashion designing, clothing production, and gardening.
Dabiri-Erewa expressed confidence that Rosaline would bring her wealth of experience, compassion, and leadership qualities to bear in her new role following her official installation as Mayor of Islington on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

She wished her a successful and impactful tenure and encouraged Nigerians in the Diaspora to continue projecting the nation positively through excellence and service in their various fields of endeavour.

Biography of Rosaline Ogunro
Rosaline Ogunro is a Nigerian-born community leader, broadcaster, and public servant based in the United Kingdom. She emerged as the Mayor of Islington in May 2026 after years of dedicated service within the Islington Council and local community structures.
She was elected Councillor for St. Peter’s and Canalside Ward in 2022 and served on several strategic committees, including the Homes and Communities Scrutiny Committee and the Licensing Committee. Prior to becoming Mayor, she served as Deputy Mayor of Islington.

Rosaline has extensive experience in community service and voluntary work, particularly through her involvement with the Islington Citizens Advice Bureau, where she serves as a part-time Adviser. She also worked with the London Symphony Orchestra in customer service and administration and participated actively in the organisation’s Community Choir for more than 20 years.

Before relocating to the United Kingdom, Rosaline worked with Radio Nigeria, building a solid foundation in broadcasting and public communication.

In addition to public service, she is known for her passion for music, fashion designing, clothing production, and gardening. Her emergence as Mayor is widely regarded as a reflection of her dedication, resilience, and commitment to community development.
