The Federal Road Safety Corps has recorded a major milestone in road safety management following a 56 percent reduction in crashes involving trucks operated by Dangote Group after a comprehensive Safety System Gap Analysis carried out on Dangote Cement Transport operations in September 2025.

The Dangote Group disclosed this during an appreciation visit to the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, where the company’s Head of Transport, Mr. Murillo Silva, commended the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, for what he described as strategic and professional interventions that transformed the company’s transport safety operations.

According to Silva, the partnership between FRSC and Dangote Group is yielding measurable results and reflects a shared commitment toward making Nigeria’s transport sector safer.

He noted that the FRSC intervention has repositioned the Dangote transport fleet as a potential model for fleet management and road safety compliance across Africa.

The Safety System Gap Analysis conducted by FRSC had identified several operational deficiencies within the company’s transport system, including violations of speed limiter regulations, inadequate driver rest management, overloading, weak safety monitoring structures, and high crash exposure largely linked to human factors.

However, following the implementation of the Corps’ recommendations, comparative crash statistics between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 revealed significant improvements in safety performance.
Data presented during the review showed that crash incidents declined from 25 cases in Q1 2025 to 11 cases in Q1 2026, representing a 56 percent reduction. Fatal crashes also dropped by 36 percent, while the number of injured persons fell from 89 to 42, amounting to a 52 percent reduction.

Most notably, deaths arising from the crashes reduced by 60 percent, decreasing from 35 fatalities recorded in 2025 to 14 in 2026.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal described the achievement as proof that strategic partnerships, data-driven interventions and institutional collaboration remain vital tools for improving road safety and saving lives.

He praised the Dangote management for embracing professional evaluation and implementing critical safety reforms, adding that sustained compliance with FRSC recommendations could position the company among the safest fleet operators on the continent.

The Corps Marshal also urged other transport and fleet operators across the country to adopt proactive safety measures capable of reducing road crashes and improving operational standards on Nigerian roads.
