The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has secured the conviction of a traffic offender who assaulted and abducted a marshal during a routine patrol operation along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on April 30, 2026, involved personnel of the Dutse Alhaji Unit Command (RS 7.19) who had flagged down a Toyota Hilux with registration number YAB 931 AE at Gegu Filling Station for traffic enforcement. The driver, however, reportedly turned violent, assaulting and unlawfully abducting one of the operatives in the course of duty.
Prompt intervention by the patrol team and police officers attached to the operation led to the arrest of the suspect, who was subsequently taken to the FCDA Police Station in Kubwa for investigation. The vehicle involved in the incident was also impounded.
Following prosecution, a competent court convicted the offender, ordering a fine of ₦72,000 or a three-month prison term. The court also awarded ₦50,000 as compensation to the assaulted FRSC marshal.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism and restraint shown by the patrol team, describing the attack as a threat to public safety and the rule of law. He warned motorists against any form of violence or obstruction of law enforcement officers, stressing that such actions will be met with legal consequences.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations while respecting human rights and urged the public to cooperate with authorities to ensure safer roads nationwide.
