NAF Launches Probe into Alleged Civilian Casualties in Jilli Air Strike

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has announced the commencement of an investigation into reports alleging that an air strike conducted on Saturday, 11 April 2026, may have affected a market in Jilli, resulting in civilian casualties.

In a statement, the Air Force said it had taken note of the reports and was treating the matter with “utmost seriousness and empathy,” stressing that the protection of civilian lives remains a core priority in all its operations.

The Chief of the Air Staff has directed the immediate deployment of the Civilian Harm Avoidance and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to the affected area. The team is expected to carry out a fact-finding mission to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.

The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and strict adherence to rules of engagement, noting that it will work with relevant authorities and community stakeholders throughout the investigative process.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Air Force urged members of the public and the media to avoid speculation and allow the process to be concluded without prejudice.

It reassured Nigerians of its continued resolve to protect national security while minimizing harm to civilians in the course of its operations.
