The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimrod, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing the prompt release of funds approved for sports development in the country.

Nimrod made the commendation in an interview with newsmen on Saturday in Abuja, describing the directive as a major boost to the growth of sports in Nigeria. He said the timely release of funds would most importantly enhance the preparation of national teams and the effective implementation of sporting programmes across the country.

He said the recent directive by President Tinubu has once again shown his commitment to the growth and development of sports in the country. As a former governor of Lagos State, Tinubu has always been a strong supporter of sports, and his latest move to ensure prompt release of sports funds is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the sector.

Nimrod went ahead to intimate that, for too long, the lack of timely release of sports funds has been a major hindrance to the progress of sports in Nigeria. This has led to the stunted growth of our national teams and the inability to fully harness the potential of our young athletes fully. But with the current directive in place, we can confidently say that Nigerian sports is set for a positive transformation.

According to him, the benefits of investing in sports are numerous, and President Tinubu’s directives is a step in the right direction. Not only does sports provide a platform for physical and mental development, but it also fosters unity and promotes social stability. By engaging young people in sports, we are reducing the chances of them falling into criminal activities such as banditry and kidnapping. It is a powerful tool for nation-building and promoting positive values among our youth.

Moreover, he said that the timely release of funds will have a direct impact on the performance of our national teams. With the right funding, he said, our athletes can have access to top-notch training facilities, equipment, and coaching. This will put them in a better position to compete at continental and global levels and possibly bring home more medals for the country.

In addition, Musa said that the effective implementation of sporting programmes across the country will lead to the discovery of more talented athletes.
The just concluded 2025 NVBF Super Cup is a perfect example of this, he said. The competition unvailed several exciting and unexpected talents, and this can only mean good news for the future of Nigerian volleyball. It is now up to the federation and national team selectors to harness these talents and groom them into world class athletes.

Looking ahead, he added that the future of Nigerian sports is bright. Several major continental competitions lined up for the 2026 season, including the zonal elimination for the African Nation Cup and the African Cup Championship. “It is crucial that we maintain a steady flow of funds to support our athletes and teams.” This will not only improve their performance but also contribute to national development and security.

In conclusion, the directive by President Tinubufor the prompt release of sports funds is a welcome development that will have a positive impact on sports in Nigeria. As we look forward to a more successful and fruitful sporting season, let us all come together to support this initiative and show our gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of sports in our beloved country.
