World Hijab Day 2026: A Celebration of Faith, Modesty, and Identity- Al Qanitaat Sisterhood
By Admin
As we approach February 1st, 2026, marking World Hijab Day, Al Qanitaat Sisterhood organization joins millions of women across the globe to reflect on the beauty and significance of the Hijab.
As the Amira of this organization, we want to reach out not only to our Muslim sisters but to the wider community to share the true heart of the Hijab. In a world of changing trends, the Hijab remains a constant, a timeless act of devotion that is deeply rooted in the Quran and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
More Than Just a Piece of Cloth
Often, the Hijab is misunderstood as a cultural dress or a sign of oppression. However, according to our faith, it is an act of liberation. It is a conscious choice to submit to the will of Allah (SWT) above the expectations of society.
The command for Hijab comes directly from Allah SWA. In the Holy Quran, specifically in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:59), Allah instructs the Prophet SAW to tell his wives, daughters, and the believing women to bring down their outer garments over themselves. The wisdom given in this verse is profound:
“That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.”
Here, the Quran teaches us that the Hijab is an identity. It is a signal to the world that the wearer is a woman of faith, deserving of respect, who wishes to be judged by her intellect and character rather than her physical appearance.
Modesty
The Hijab is also physically defined in Surah An-Nur (24:31), where believing women are
told to guard their modesty and “draw their veils over their bosoms.”
However, we must remember that the Hijab is not just about covering the hair or the body; it
is a spiritual state known as Haya (modesty). The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) beautifully
said:
“Modesty brings nothing but good.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Following the Sunnah means that our Hijab must be accompanied by “Hijab of the heart.”
This includes:
Speech: Speaking with kindness and without harshness.
Gaze: Lowering our eyes and avoiding forbidden sights.
Conduct: Walking with humility and interacting with others with grace.
If we wear the scarf but our actions are arrogant or hurtful, we are missing the essence of
what the Prophet (SAW) taught us.
An Appeal to Our Government
On this significant day, we also wish to address our leaders at both the State and Federal levels.
There are still sectors in our society where Muslim women are forced to choose between serving their country and following their faith. We respectfully appeal to the government to lift restrictions on the use of Hijab for officials.
Whether in healthcare, the security forces, or public office, a woman’s competence is defined by her skills, not by the exposure of her hair. We ask for policy updates that allow uniform
compliant Hijabs, ensuring that no woman is shut out of the workforce or public service simply because she wishes to cover herself in accordance with her religion.
A Message to My Sisters
To my dear sisters wearing the Hijab: wear it with pride and joy. You are carrying a flag of Islam. On the days when it feels heavy or difficult, remember that you are obeying the One
who created you. Your Hijab is your personal worship, a shield that protects your heart and your dignity.
To those struggling with the Hijab: we see you, and we pray for you. The journey to Allah is taken one step at a time. May this World Hijab Day be a source of encouragement for you to
take that step towards His mercy.
Our Invitation
On this World Hijab Day, Al Qanitaat Sisterhood organization invites everyone, Muslims and friends of other faiths, to look past the stereotypes. We invite you to see the Hijab for what it
truly is: a commitment to Allah, a declaration of modesty, and a celebration of womanhood in its most dignified form.
May Allah grant us the steadfastness to represent our deen with beauty and grace.
Signed,
Mrs Rashida Ibrahim
