The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has clarified its position regarding a Federal High Court order in Osogbo, Osun State. The court had ordered the arrest of the immediate past INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for allegedly disobeying a judgment related to the Action Alliance party.

Mr. Sam Olumekun,
National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee on Thursday 9th October 2025, has stated that INEC has complied with the court’s judgment by recognizing the Action Alliance’s executive elected on October 7, 2023.

The Commission listed the names of four national executives but excluded the National Chairman, Rufai Omoaje, due to a pending appeal at the Supreme Court.

INEC had filed processes at the Federal High Court to demonstrate compliance, and the case is ongoing.

The Commission assures the public that it will continue to obey court judgments and orders. INEC urges media organizations to fact-check their reports to avoid misinformation.
