UAE Mourns Victims of Niger Boat Mishap, Stands With Nigeria

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended heartfelt condolences to Nigeria following the devastating boat accident in Niger State that left scores dead and many others missing.

In a message issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE described the tragedy as heartbreaking, expressing solidarity with the Federal Government and the Nigerian people during this difficult time.

“The UAE conveys its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a swift recovery,” the statement read.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the accident happened on September 2 in Gausawa community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. About 90 people were on board the ill-fated boat, with 58 survivors rescued so far. Sadly, over 30 lives have been lost, while several others remain unaccounted for as rescue efforts continue.

Preliminary findings indicate that the tragedy was caused by overloading and a collision with a tree stump along the river channel.

NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has ordered intensified search and recovery operations in the area.
