The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. This was underscored during a courtesy visit by DICON’s Director-General, Maj. Gen. BI Alaya, to NDLEA’s Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. MB Marwa, at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on July 11, 2025.

The two agencies discussed potential areas of collaboration, with DICON seeking to complement NDLEA’s efforts in combating drug-related crimes.

Maj. Gen. Alaya requested that NDLEA outline specific areas where DICON can provide support, promising that such requests would be prioritized.

This visit follows a similar meeting in February 2024 between NDLEA and DICON’s previous director-general, Maj. Gen. AE Edet, where they discussed potential partnerships.

NDLEA has been actively engaged in efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse, with notable successes, including the arrest of 14,480 suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of 2.4 million kilograms of illicit drugs between January and October 2024. The agency has also been strengthening partnerships with other organizations, such as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), to enhance its efforts.
