FRC Elevates Fiscal Transparency and Accountability in North-Central Nigeria

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), is poised to drive fiscal discipline and good governance in North-Central Nigeria through a two-day sensitization retreat. The event, themed “The Impact of Transparency and Accountability on Sub-National Development in North Central Nigeria,” will be held from Thursday, November 7th to Friday, November 8th, 2024, at the Sandralia Hotel Limited in Abuja.

A Gathering of Key Stakeholders The retreat will bring together a diverse group of key stakeholders from the North-Central region, including:
State Commissioners for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning
State Accountant Generals
Debt Management Officials
Auditors-General
Permanent Secretaries, State Fiscal Responsibility Institutions
Anti-Corruption Institutions
State Directors and Coordinators
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

The agenda is packed with insightful discussions and interactive sessions led by renowned experts, including academics, legal practitioners, and fiscal analysts. Key topics to be covered include:
Unlocking Sub-National Potentials: Exploring the role of transparency and accountability in attracting investment and driving economic growth.
The Power of Money Bills: Understanding how money bills can enhance transparency and accountability in public finance management.

Decoding the Fiscal Responsibility Act: Deep-diving into the FRC’s role in ensuring fiscal discipline and accountability.

Emotional Intelligence and Fiscal Responsibility: Examining the impact of emotional intelligence on effective fiscal management.

This North-Central retreat is part of a nationwide series of sensitization programs initiated by the FRC. Similar events have been successfully held in the North-East, South-West, South-South, and South-East geopolitical zones. Through this series of sensitization programmes, the Commission aims to empower subnational governments to make informed decisions, optimize resource allocation, and ultimately improve the lives of Nigerian citizens.
