Indonesia Celebrates 79th Independence Day, Mulls Stronger Ties With Nigeria

As the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap, hosted a diplomatic reception to commemorate Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day, emphasizing the growing partnership between Indonesia and Nigeria. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Madame Misitura Abdulraheem, Honorable Minister of State for Steel Development, H.E. Mr. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, and other prominent business leaders.

In his remarks, Ambassador Harahap expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s support of Indonesia’s candidatures to international organizations and highlighted the significant growth in bilateral trade between the two nations. The trade volume increased by 83% in 2023, valued at $4.78 billion, with additional business deals worth $16.8 million concluded during Indonesia Expo 2023 in Lagos.

The Ambassador emphasized the importance of deeper collaboration, citing joint initiatives such as:

Coal-Based Fertilizer Production: Indonesia’s innovative coal-based fertilizer, researched by Bayero University in Kano, enhances soil fertility and conservation.
Capacity Building Programs: Artificial insemination courses, fishery technology programs, and scholarships for Nigerian students to study in Indonesia.
Military Science Scholarships: Opportunities for international Master’s and PhD students..

HE Harahap leads the Poko Poko dance

Ambassador Harahap declared the Indonesia Mini Expo 2024 open, inviting guests to experience Indonesian culture, cuisine, and products. This event aims to strengthen economic and business ties between Indonesia and Nigeria.

Highlights of the event include: the Kewe kewe and Pocho pocho dance, Indonesian Coffee and guests were also treated to different with kinds of Indonesian cousines of which coffee was not left out.

There were exhibition of Indonesia products manufactured in Nigeria like noddles, detergent, beverages, others have franchise to sell in Nigeria like Pharmaceuticals, Beauty products, Solar and textiles.
