NSCC Concludes Inaugural Quality Assurance Training in Geriatric Social Care

In a groundbreaking initiative, the National Senior Citizens Center (NSCC), has concluded a two weeks inaugural training program for Quality Assurance Assessors (QAA) in geriatric social care. This pioneering effort aims to certify professionals in the specialized field of geriatric care, ensuring that the highest standards are met in providing social support and services to the elderly.

The program, held in collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Skills Nigeria Limited, marks a significant step forward in addressing the growing need for skilled caregivers in Nigeria’s aging population. With a focus on quality and professionalism in service delivery, this initiative sets a new standard for geriatric care in Nigeria.

Dr. Emem Omokaro, Director General of the NSCC, commended the participants for their dedication and commitment to achieving the certification. She emphasized the importance of equipping caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care to older persons.

The training covered a wide range of topics, including geriatric care, ethical practices, emergency response, and the psychosocial aspects of aging. The participants, drawn from various regions across the country, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their skills and contribute meaningfully to the care of older persons.

Engr. Yusuf Suleiman, Director of Vocation and Technology at the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), praised the initiative, stating that it aligns perfectly with their mission to enhance vocational training across various sectors, including elder care.

The newly certified caregivers are now equipped to deliver services that meet the highest quality standards, ensuring the well-being and dignity of Nigeria’s older population. As the NSCC continues to roll out its Quality Assurance Certification program, the DG reiterated the Center’s commitment to expanding the training to reach more caregivers nationwide.
