In a move to enhance food security in Nigeria, the Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit (PFSCU) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have initiated discussions on a potential collaboration. The PFSCU team, led by Marion Moon, Secretary of the PFSCU Board and Technical Assistant on Agriculture to the President, visited NiMet’s Director General, Prof. Charles Anosike, on August 22, 2024.

Ms. Moon emphasized the critical role NiMet plays in ensuring food security, particularly in the face of current food crises. She highlighted the PFSCU’s mandate to provide strategic data analysis to support President Tinubu’s decision-making in achieving food security.

The proposed collaboration aims to leverage NiMet’s expertise in weather forecasting and climate information to inform agricultural planning, decision-making, and policy development. By combining their strengths, PFSCU and NiMet can enhance the accuracy of agricultural predictions, optimize crop yields, and ultimately contribute to Nigeria’s food security.

This partnership demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. By working together, PFSCU and NiMet can drive positive change and support President Tinubu’s vision for a food-secure Nigeria.
