FRSC FC beats Federal High Court FCT to win NUJ FCT Correspondent Chapel Tournament

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has successfully defended their title, emerging champions of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) FCT Correspondent Chapel’s 2nd edition football tournament. The “Safety Shooters” defeated Federal High Court 1-0 in the final, courtesy of a sublime solo goal by Eshimutu Gomina. This victory marks their second consecutive win, prompting a threat from the Nigeria Police Force to end their dominance in the next edition.

The three-day tournament featured twelve teams from various private and public organizations, with dignitaries like the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Inspector General of Police, and representatives from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in attendance.

The FRSC team had earlier defeated Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), and Nigeria Customs (NCS) to reach the final, while Federal High Court eliminated Nigeria Police Force (NFP) and tournament title sponsor AIBEN.

Receiving the trophy, FRSC’s winning captain Azubuike Stephen acknowledged the pressure to win again and dedicated the victory to their Corp Marshal. Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police has vowed to terminate FRSC’s dominance in the next edition, promising to prepare the police team to take over the title.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau commended the NUJ Correspondents Chapel for organizing the tournament and called for more sponsorship to grow the event. Other sponsors of the tournament include Nigerian Red Cross Society, Julius Berger Nigeria, Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria, and others.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel Comrade, Jide Oyekunle said the tournament was aimed at strengthening synergy amongst the participating organisations.

“Going by the theme of the tournament “ Football for Friendship and Peace “ The 3- Day tournament is aimed at strengthening the relationships between the media and participating organizations particularly the security agencies. It is also aimed at shaping and promoting synergy and collaboration,” he revealed.

Encomium has continued to pour in over the FCT Correspondents Chapel successful hosting of the 2nd Edition of the 3-Day Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ) football tournament in Abuja over the weekend that brought both private and public organizations together.
