“Think outside the box to overcome challenges”- Olawande

The Honourable Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande, has called on Nigerian Youths to think outside the box to overcome challenges confronting them and the country

The Minister made this call when he went on inspection of the facilities at the National Youth Service Corp, Paiko, Niger State on Thursday, 7th December. 2023.

The Minister, who acknowledged that the Nigerian Youths are confronted with so many challenges, expressed confidence in their ability to change the narrative. He further said that the future and prosperity of the country lie in their ability to harness available opportunities through resourcefulness.

He noted that the key to a brighter and greater Nigeria lies in the hands of the youth as no other than the demography can move the country forward because the future belongs to them. ” If we can not change the narrative now, when are we going to change it.” He asked.

Olawande, who recalled the hurdles he passed through to stand on his feet, assured the youth that there is no height they could not attain through diligence and determination.

He said, ” From my polytechnic to University education, I was the one that paid for my school fees despite the fact that my parents were Civil Servants.”

” I went to study Civil Engineering due to my doggedness, and it was my experience while I was working as a labourer that prompted me to study civil engineering.”

The Minister assured them that the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is aware of the problems confronting the youth and would provide the enabling environment for them to thrive.

The Niger State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, who expressed her joy over the visit of the minister disclosed that a total of one thousand nine hundred and twelve,(1912) prospective corps members took the oath of allegiance administered by the Chief Judge of Niger State, Honourable Zainab Aliyu on Tuesday 28th November, 3023.

The State Coordinator revealed that both camp members and officials were accommodated within the camp.

She added that the camp has a clinic that operates round the clock through the management of a Consultant and his medical team from General Hospital Minna adding that Corps medical personnel are under the supervision of the medical personnel.

She said that corps members actively participate in camp activities, especially skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development trainings.

Mrs Abdulwahab, however listed the challenges of the camp to include: inadequate hostel accommodation, need to renovate the camp facilities, erosion problem, fallen part of the perimeter fence and poor condition of the amblance vehicle.

Other problems, according to her, are inadequate toilets and bathrooms for both corps members and camp officials, need for more borehole, and inadequate utility vehicles.
