Nigeria, Germany collaborate on labour migration

The Nigerian and German governments are making moves to promote exchange through bilateral labour migration agreement, with a view to discouraging illegal migration.

Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, disclosed this yesterday during a visit by German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to the Migrant Resource Centre, at the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development, Lagos.

He said the Memorandum of Understanding would encourage regular labour migration pathways for the benefit of both countries. He described the event as another milestone in collaboration with the German Government, as it would allow both countries to showcase achievements recorded over the years and discuss possible areas of interest.

Scholz commended the German Agency for International Cooperation in Nigeria for its efforts towards promoting vocational skills development and entrepreneurial training for Nigerians. He said Germany and Nigeria would be capitalising on the blossoming partnership to provide more opportunities for qualified creatives.

Director, Employment and Wages, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Nyamali Audu, said the resource centre is a one-stop-shop for counseling, employment and upskilling as well as providing available jobs for jobseekers through the National Electronic Labour Exchange (NELEX) MRC platform.
