GRANDMOTHERS FOR GOOD INITIATIVE FOR COMMUNITY PROSPERITY

The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), flagship program, the Grandmothers for Good Initiative has taken-off with the formal inspection of the 21.6 hectares of land earmarked for the pilot in Ushafa community, in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Director General of the National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro, who led the inspection team said the initiative is principally for older women (60+), who are farmers tailored at promoting their productive activities, and contributions to the economic growth of the community.

Omokaro says the Grandmothers for Good Initiative is Older Persons “Men and women” focused for Community Prosperity and that the National Senior Citizens Centre will facilitate a multi-purpose cooperative and bring in partners that will provide the needed health and social services.

The 21.6 hectares of land is leased for the Seniors’ Cooperative Society integrated farm with some members of the UShafa Grandmothers Arise for Good Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society facilitated by the National Senior Citizens Centre to engage in the Senior-led Economic Tree and Crops Planting initiative with skills, value chain and market development

The Grandmothers Arise for Good Initiative: Economic Tree-crops and vegetable planting project aim is to improve and sustain the lives of Older-Persons with the strategic intent to have the female and male demographics – 60 years and above contribute to the national development by utilizing time, experience, knowledge and capacities in productive ventures.

The Grandmothers Arise for Good Project: Economic Tree-crops and vegetable planting project is an agribusiness initiative that focuses on Groundnut, Maize, Beans and other crops.
