NSCC, NIMC meets with Banks, Related Institutions on Issuance of Identity Cards for Senior Citizens.

In line with the continued engagement with stakeholders for possible collaborations, the National Senior Citizens Center on Tuesday met with Banks and Related Institution on Issuance and Funding of Identity Cards for Senior Citizens, at Abuja.

Speaking during her opening remarks, the NSCC Director General, Dr Emem Omokaro disclosed that the vision for provision of special National Identify Cards for Senior Citizens to provide a multi-purpose card that would serve as vehicle for financial inclusion, as conducive economic and social enterprise empowerment instrument and access to age-friendly physical environment outcomes for Nigeria’s senior citizens, ‘a population most left behind’.

She encouraged participants to take advantage of the meeting and contribute fully to achieve purpose of the round table.

Dr Omokaro said a technical meeting would be arranged to work out modalities for implementation of the move and synergy with banks and other related institutions in partnership with the NSCC.

Speaking also, the DG of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), who was represented by the Director of Information Technology and Identity  Database, Mr Chucks Onyepunuka gave the enrollment of the elderly as at 2019 to be 14.9 million which said the number had grown to 16 million as at 2022.

He said there was need for senior citizens to get registered as they would need the ID cards to access numerous benefits that would accrue to the elderly.

The meeting which centered on provision of a card for the elderly via registration with NIMC and NSCC which will enable them access preferential treatment and discounts. had in attendance the NSCC, NIMC and representatives from different commercial banks

About the National Senior Citizens Center (NSCC)

NSCC is a very young Federal government agency established pursuant to the National Senior citizens Centre Act 2017 signed by His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, which however, commenced operations in June 2021.

The National Senior Citizens Center is established to serve population of the elderly, as well as harnessing the opportunities its mandate presents for Public -Private Partnerships.
