NAIRA REDESIGN: YOUTH GROUP SET UP TASKFORCE TO CURTAIL SABOTAGE

Many Nigerians faulted the currency redesign/swap policy and the shortage of the new notes which have frustrated efforts by many Nigerians operating in the nation’s cash-dependent businesses, make payments, and enjoy certain services.
The Director General Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), Amb. Ade Mario Emmanuel, who expressed Nigerians’ concerns and pains during a press conference organized by CONYSSA in collaboration with Civil Society Organisations on the state of the nation vis-a-vis insecurity,cash swap and petroleum product scarcity, said the purpose of the conference was to provide the needed interface for the youth and Nigerian populace at large seeing the visible economic hardships that has been faced by Nigerians in the past few weeks resulting from inadequacy of petroleum product for domestic consumption,the new Naira swap policy of the CBN.
Mario described the current situation of Fuel Scarcity as an infringement on the rights of Nigerians to be able to move round the Country and perform their civic duties.
He urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited to be proactive in addressing the issues surrounding fuel supply across the country without many Marketers failing to dispense fuel despite having been supplied Petroleum products.
Mario also appealed to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele and the government of Nigeria to hasten solutions to new naira crunch
He underscored the importance of peaceful and credible elections for the consolidation of Nigeria’s democracy and that of the African region.
“There are fears that if not properly addressed, the crises, including insecurity as well as fuel and naira scarcity, may negatively impact the voters’ turnout and disrupt elections”
Okpanachi Jacob said the suffering of people is especially pronounced at the rural level where most transactions are done using cash
He said the effects of the Scarcity has affected every Nigerian one way or the Other and must be addressed as a matter of urgent National Importance.
Recently, a pregnant woman House in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru LGA, Kaduna State, reportedly died because all efforts by her husband to withdraw money from the bank failed.
Mimi Peter has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Government to urgently address the situation as the impact of the hardship has been dire on Nigerian women and girls.
