Thugs beat up petty trader in Calabar

A petty trader has been beaten to a coma by thugs suspected to be acting at the order of Calabar South Council Authority in Calabar, Cross River State Capital.

Newsdotafrica gathered that the victim identified as Mr Chinedu Igwe, who is the Vice Chairman of Petty Traders Association, was attacked by the suspected thugs on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Shopping Center Complex, Watt Market, Calabar.

We further discovered that the suspected thugs were sent by the Calabar South Local Government Authority to eject petty traders in a matter that is already in court.

There has been growing concerns over the decision by the Local Government Area to use suspected area boys to eject petty traders, for matters that are already in court.

Recall that last year, there was a brawl between traders in the said Shopping Complex and the Executive Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council, Hon. Esther Bassey, over levy collection.
