World Cup roundup: Senegal becomes first African team to qualify for round of 16

Senegal produced a solid performance to book a place in the round of 16 after a 2-1 win against Ecuador in their final Group A game on Tuesday.

Ismaila Sar scored in the 44th minute from the penalty spot before Moises Caicedo equalized in the 68th minute.
The skipper, Kalidou Koulibaly became the hero of the Match when he scored in the 70th minute to earn the Teranga Lions a win and qualify into the knockout round for the first time since 2002.
Senegal will now meet England in the round of 16 which will start on Saturday, December 3.

The Netherlands defeated the host nation Qatar 2-0 to finish top of Group A.
Cody Gakpo scored the opening goal before Frenkie De Jong sealed the win for the Netherlands .
Qatar’s poor performance means they became the first host nation to exit the tournament with three group-stage losses, finishing bottom with no points.

Elsewhere, Marcus Rashford got a brace as England thrashed Wales 3-0 to top Group B and book a place in the last 16.
Phil Foden scored the other goal for the Three Lions as they racked up seven points in the group.

Christian Pulisic scored the only goal in a very tensed match between United States of America and Iran to finish second in the group and set up a last-16 meeting with the Netherlands.
