IoD SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH ACCI

The Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria, has called for consummation of partnership agreement with Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), to entrench and deepen good governance and best practices in all sectors of Nigerian economy.

The Chairman, National Organising Committee, 2021 Annual Directors Conference, Alh. Lamis Dikko who led his team to ACCI secretariat on Wednesday in preparation for the Institute annual conference scheduled for 23rd November, with the theme, “Creating the Future: Deepening Corporate Governance Practice through Multi-Sectoral and Multi-Generational Collaborations” stated that the conference will focus on the significance of engaging new generation directors, young entrepreneurs and the public sector in the quest to deepen the practice of sound corporate governance.
“No doubt, the theme resonates with the global demand for inclusiveness, board quality, effectiveness, and accountability to accelerate growth via corporate governance in the private and public sectors.

The meeting is also expected to attract young directors, entrepreneurs and millennials who are expected to seize the opportunity of the Conference for mentorship, networking and expanding their knowledge for sound corporate governance.

Alh. Lamis lauded the warm reception giving his team by ACCI while also urging that IoD members be part of membership of the Chamber. “We appreciate the honour done our Institute by this reception, as it is a manifestation of the high esteem with which your organisation holds the Institute of Directors of Nigeria. We are asking for you to give our members your membership application forms to be fully part of the Chamber.”

The President ACCI, Dr, Al-Mujtaba Abubakar who received them in company of the Director General ACCI, Victoria Akai and Executive Director, National Chamber Policy Centre (NCPC), Mr. Olawale Rasheed said, the position of directorship in any organisation is fast becoming important and many are now realising it.

Dr. Abubakar also said the role of a director is now deeper than what it used to be adding that as a director, every year you must be accessed and your organisation must see to it that you are performing.
“We will relate your message to our members at the next EXCO meeting as we also seek for your registration forms for our members to be part of IoD. I appreciate your team for coming and also promise that we will give you all the supported needed for your upcoming activity.”

The DG ACCI who intimated the visiting team with the structure of the chamber said, we currently operate four Centre alongside the secretariat namely: Abuja Trade Centre; Business Entrepreneurial Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre, Policy Advocacy Centre (PAC) and Dispute Resolution Centre (DRC) adding that each Centre carries out specialised functions which have added impetus to the task of developing the Nigerian economy which we were already engrossed with in the chamber.
“We are a reputable Chamber of Commerce and our Centre have been adopted by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and we are being upgraded to a Grade 1 Chamber.
The IoD two-day conference will be declared open on Tuesday, 23rd November, 2021 by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, the Chairman, BUA Group will Chair the Opening Ceremony while the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and serial entrepreneur, youth mobiliser, consummate banker and one of Africa’s shining stars in governance, Mr. Tony Elumelu will also be in attendance.

The Conference would be rounded up in the evening of Wednesday, 24 November 2021 with a Special Government Meet Business Dinner, which is an exclusive high-profile event, that attracts a cross section of notable Business Leaders and Captains of Industry in the private sector who will get the chance to meet and interact with Nigeria’s top-level public-sector technocrats and policy makers.
