IMF REVISES BANGLADESH’S GROWTH FORECAST UPWARD
After the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has also revised up its growth forecast for Bangladesh economy.
The Washington-based IMF today said the south Asian nation will grow at 5 per cent in 2021, up from its October last year’s projection of 4.4 per cent.
Earlier, the World Bank also revised up its growth projection for Bangladesh.
The lender said it now expects Bangladesh to grow 3.6 per cent in the FY2020-21, up from a projection of 1.6 per cent made in the Global Economic Prospects Update in January.
Today, the IMF in its April edition of World Economic Outlook said the world economy is going to rebound at a growth rate of 6 per cent in 2021, which is 0.8 percentage points higher than the earlier projections.
The lender also estimated that Bangladesh’s gross domestic product will increase by 7.5 per cent in 2022.
This year, India economy may grow at a rate of 12.5 per cent, Maldives at 18.3 per cent, Sri Lanka 4 per cent, Nepal at 2.9 per cent and Pakistan at 1.5 per cent.
